ActiveX & JavaTM Web Gadgets
These "Controls" are embedded in web pages using the HTML <OBJECT></OBJECT> element. They require a web browser that not only supports the OBJECT element, but also supports ActiveX Controls. Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 or later and other 100% MS IE compatible browsers should be able to use these controls. (E.g., AOL versions 6 or later based on MS IE).
These "Applets" are embedded in web pages using the HTML <APPLET></APPLET> element. They require a web browser that supports the APPLET element and Java applets on a computer that has the "Java Runtime Environment" software installed. Netscape/Gecko, Firefox, Mozilla and other compatible browsers should be able to run these applets, although some people may need to download and install the Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRETM) software for their system if it is not already installed.
